although I have done a few flower macros before, it has never appealed to me to try something with a rose... I think the reason for that is that roses are way over done in photography, and it often carries a "cheap" feel to it, if not done well. but I thought I'd try something with it, anyways, to see what turned out. I'm not terribly happy or excited with this photo, but I'm putting it up anyways, mostly to get feedback and critiques on how to do better next time with a flower shot. I've seen some tremendously well done flower macros here on dA, so I'm willing to learn as much as possible from you all. Let me know what you think and what you suggest I do differently.
Beautiful aged look to it which, I believe, is the best for rose shots. Masterful composition as well... the frame really adds to it. You're right about the roses being overdone, but you've broken that mold! Nice work!

Mmm. Love the colours, but can't say I'm crazy about the framing. The rose seems to be "perfectly annoyingly" off-center. It's not centered enough to be balanced, but it's not far away enough to be considered off-center. That is, horizontally; vertically things seem okay. I'd like to see the flower knocked a little to the right to balance things.
I think it would also be nice to see a lower horizon, possibly by extending the picture higher. That's probably just personal preference. I have no idea how closely you cropped things.
But, as always, colour / lighting / saturation / levels are fantastic. You know I'm a huge fan
